Viet heritage
Proudly Vietnamese.
Andre and his sister Nina are the multiracial son and daughter of the Stackhouse family, who settled in Washington at least three generations ago, and the Le family, who fled their hometown of Saigon in 1975 as the last vestiges of South Vietnam were unified within the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
His mother MyPhuong, her three siblings, and parents were initially settled in a refugee community in Arkansas but eventually were relocated to Spokane where she earned her high school diploma.
She was admitted to the University of Washington where she would meet her future husband Chris and begin a family together in Bothell. She earned her American citizenship in 1982.
If elected governor, Andre would be the first of Vietnamese descent to hold the office and would join Representative My-Linh Thai and Senator Joe Nguyen as a distinguished Viet-American elected to serve in Washington's government.
Chris and MyPhuong's story is a testament to healing, hope, and growth in the aftermath of decolonialization, revolution, and warfare.
